Tides of Power
About Tides of Power
Tides of Power is a private Ultima Online server that launched in May of 2025.
Tides of Power offers a unique approach to Ultima Online. The original nickname for the project was “Ultima, Online” with a goal to offer an Ultima Online server, in a world with life, similar to the original Ultima RPG series. There is a bigger story being told on Tides of Power; a story that never ends.
World Design
Our world is built around this story. From the distressed abandoned homesteads in the countryside, to a supply shortage leading to an increase in reagent and housing prices. Some may find it a struggle to get started, but the adventure is worth the reward.
Our Britannia takes place after a flood reshaped the world. Our Britannia map and gameplay mechanics are based loosely on T2A and UOR Ultima Online, with many new opportunities for exploration,
Original content by GM Boomland Jenkins. Read the shard lore to see how this all started, and where we currently are (in storytelling).
Shard Mechanics Summarized
World & Game Design
- The Map: Tides of Power uses a custom map built on the original Britannia map. Our custom client is built off of the recent client from UO.com (client version 7.0.99.1).
- Living World: Commonly known (NPC) characters of the world will have an on-going presence and will shape the World around you.
- Facets: Despite having similar features as a UO Renaissance shard, Tides of Power does not offer Trammel.
- Rare Hunting: We have recurring rare spawns that respawn daily, weekly, monthly, or longer. These were not available during test phases.
- Server Births: Upon the official shard launch, there will be one of a kind server birth rare items in the World. These were not available during test phases.
- Skill Gain: There is no power hour or 8×8. You can macro (most) skills to GM in your home. Skill gains are quicker than classic OSI shards at the time, but slower than some modern UO servers.
- Leaderboards: We have plans to introduce leaderboards for PVP and PVM achievements.
- Donations: Taking money from players, as a donation or a “donation” complicates running a UO shard. While funding is necessary, we do not accept donations for the shard. The best way to donate to Tides of Power is by spending a few minutes to reach out and tell a friend or make a post about the server. Click here for ideas.
PVM & Exploration
- Character Titles: We use the Fame and Karma system for reputation titles. You will find a new tier of Titles to unlock for both those whose the path of good, and those who declare themselves a villain.
- Taming and Pets: Players have 5 follower slots. Animals and creatures use a set number of slots, limiting how many pets you can control at any given time. You can store extra pets at the stables. You can access your stabled pets from any stablemaster in Britannia.
- Pet Bonding: Tamers can bond with their pet, allowing them to train their favorite pets, and resurrecting them if they die. Pets suffer stat loss when resurrecting.
- Treasure Hunting & SOS: You’ll find the treasure map and fishing systems to be similar to pre-AOS.
- NPC Corpse Looting: When you kill a monster in PVM, the monster’s corpse is blue to non-partied players for 30 seconds. Any player who loots the corpse within the initial 30 seconds will become a criminal.
- Power Scrolls: There are no power or stat scrolls. You are limited to 700 skill points and each skill is capped at 100. You are limited to 225 stat points and each stat is capped at 100.
- Hunter’s Mark: Our Hunter’s Mark feature provides incentives for hunting in specific game regions.
PVP, Murder, Stealing, and Looting
- Corpse Looting: Looting an innocent player’s corpse will result in a criminal flag.
- Thieving: Thieves must be in the thieves’ guild to steal from other players. The stealing system is closely modeled after T2A stealing systems. Stealing is a criminal activity.
- Templates: UOR mechanics opened the door to new templates that we’ve embraced at Tides of Power. This includes UOR special hits, Nox & Inscription mages, disarm thieves, etc.
- Guild PvP: Guilds can declare war on each other, allowing warring guilds to fight without consequence. Guilds may declare their loyalty to the old world Order or declare their love of Chaos. Order and Chaos guilds function much like they did during UOR.
- Faction PvP: We will be introducing Factions after launch, with a storyline & content release.
- Open PvP: Players are free to attack one another outside of town. Doing so will make you a criminal for 2 minutes. You can become a murderer if you kill too many players and have 5 or more long term murder counts.
- Murderers and PKing: Murderers will suffer stat loss if they resurrect with too many short term murder counts. The murder system is similar to the T2A and UOR PK bounty board system with scaling stat loss.
- Stats: Your health is equal to: (Strength/2) + 50. For example a character with 90 strength will have 95 hit points. A character with 80 strength will have 90 hit points.
- Mind Blast: Mind blast damages a player based on their stat gap. Mind blast will hurt those with 100/25/100 stats more than someone with balanced stats, such as 85/40/100 or 75/75/75.
Dodging (Defensive Wrestling) with Anatomy and Evaluating Intelligence Skill: Players who have anatomy and evaluating intelligence will benefit from defensive wrestling. Chance to Dodge = (Anatomy + Evaluating Intelligence) / 2). Bonus is up to 50% at Grandmaster. Does not stack with Wrestling skill.
Housing, Ships, and Crafting
- Housing: Houses have secures and lock downs. Houses have friends, co-owners, and a ban list. The housing system is closely modeled after the T2A housing system.
- Boating: Boats allow anyone with a key to recall on to the deck. Unlocked boats can be accessed by any players. Our ships will function similar to T2A and UOR era boats.
- Bulk Order Deeds: We’ve taken the BOD system that was popular during the UO Renaissance era and used that as a base on our server. We’ve expanded it to all major craft skills.
- Colored Ores & Gear: Armor crafted with colored ingots will have increased efficiency when used in combat.
- Training Dummy Addons: These can bring your melee combat skills to 70 instead of 25. They have a limited number of uses and can be recharged.
- Pickpocket Dip Addons: These can bring your stealing skill to 70 instead of 25. They have a limited number of uses and can be recharged.
- Large Bed Addons: A large bed provides rest and can be double-clicked to restore health, mana, and stamina. It cannot be used while in combat, and anyone with access to the bed can use it. They have a limited number of uses and can be recharged.
- Addon Repair Deeds: Carpenters will be able to create repair deeds to recharge house addons.
- Runebooks: Runebooks can have up to 50 charges. Runebooks are not blessed by default. We have a runebook enhancement deed for this.
- Alchemy: “Agility” and “Strength” Potions give you +20 (instead of +10) but have a shorter duration than a greater potion. Purple potions have a 10 second re-use timer.
- Alchemy: Grandmaster alchemists can throw purple potions every 3 seconds, instead of every 10 seconds.
- Bowfletching: Fletching skill has been given more craftable items including staves, bows, ammo, kindling, fishing poles, and wooden shields.
