Shard Lore Summarized

Immerse yourself in the unfolding saga of Tides of Power, a realm scarred by the merciless wrath of the Dark Arts.

A catastrophic event occurred, flooding the world, destroying much of Britannia, killing Lord British, the Guardian, the Avatar, and thousands more. You, the Adventurer washed up on the shores of what remains of Britannia.

With the absence of Lord British and no known heirs to the throne, the struggle between factions has never been greater.

Whether you’re a fierce warrior, a skilled mage, or a cunning thief, Tides of Power offers endless opportunities for adventure.

Prologue

The flood struck without warning, its devastation unfolding in mere moments. A series of chants, echoing with the sinister power of the Dark Arts, unleashed a relentless tsunami that swallowed Britannia’s shores.

Unprotected island towns were obliterated, and the waterways of Vesper swelled, tearing through the canals and washing away the city. While Minoc’s resourceful citizens fled westward, many miners perished deep within the flooded tunnels of Mt. Kendall.

Amid the chaos, the ancient Leviathan stirred, a monstrous force that shattered ships and scattered survivors to the winds.

When the storm subsided, half the known world lay in ruins. Cities erased, families separated, and countless lives lost in the flood.

With the Britannian Council in ruins and its leaders gone, the realm descended into anarchy. Guilds claimed control of abandoned districts and cities, carving out territories amid the wreckage. Noble attempts to hold onto power often ended in betrayal, as those once ruled turned against their lords.

Resource scarcity became a grim reality. Fertile farmlands turned into battlegrounds, and brigands and marauders left a bloody legacy of violence and despair.

Early Settlements: The Birth of Britannia's New Age

Cities that had stood proud for as long as time can recall were reduced to watery wastelands. Amid the wreckage, survivors clawed their way back to life, their choices shaping the fractured world we now know.

Farmers tilled the soaked earth, bringing life back into the land. Miners braved waterlogged caverns to pull precious ore from the ground. Cooks and bakers fed the hungry, while seasoned warriors trained new recruits to guard the streets.

But not everyone sought unity. For some, the flood was an opportunity, a blank slate on which to carve their ambitions. These disrupters saw power in chaos, sowing discord to build empires from the ashes of the old world.

Figures Who Shaped Reform

Brother Jobick: A humble monk from the Abbey of Yew, Brother Jobick has become a beacon of hope for the lost and grieving. Survivors risk their lives traveling for days on the road, just for a chance to speak with Jobick.

Admiral Jarvis: Scarred but unbroken, Admiral Jarvis is a symbol of Britannia’s old guard. A former councilman, he has rallied loyalists to his side, enforcing a harsh but just law in a world teetering on the brink of anarchy.

Irina the Wanderer: Irina, a former resident of the Minoc Gypsy camp has been wandering Britannia since the flood. She’s oftentimes found in the northern region beyond the prison dungeon of Wrong.

Chancellor Garrick: The pragmatic leader of the East Guard, Chancellor Garrick has fortified his position northeast of Britain, defending what remains of the eastern settlements. His leadership is marked by strict discipline and by common interest among his followers.

Lord Snake: A name that chills the hearts of all who hear it. Once a petty thief, Lord Snake now leads an army of marauders who prey on the weak. His domain, a former trade route, known as Snake’s Pass, is now a treacherous death trap, where merchants and travelers vanish without a trace.

The Orcish Army: United for the first time under a single brutal leader, the orcs claim the flood was a divine sign of their rise to power. With their strongholds in the wilderness, the orcs are a constant threat to Yew, Britain, and other nearby settlements.

The Necromancer of the Dark Arts: Shrouded in mystery and fear, this practitioner of forbidden magic is rumored to have played a role in the flood itself. From monstrous creations to unholy curses, the Necromancer weaves chaos from the shadows of the Dark Arts Academy.
