How to Use Blacksmithing

Blacksmithing allows players to craft weapons, armor, and shields from refined materials like iron ingots. Player blacksmiths can repair items as well. You will need a smithy hammer, tongs, or a sledge hammer tool for blacksmithing. A forge and anvil is also required. Most blacksmiths will also have mining skill as a way to gather ore and ingots for crafting.

Repairing Items: Repairing weapon and armor equipment can prevent the item from breaking. As the durability of an item declines, the damage or protection will begin to suffer, until it eventually breaks. Using arms lore on an item will tell you (roughly) how damaged the item is.

Smelting Items: Players with Grandmaster (100) Blacksmithing or Mining skill can smelt (recycle) an item and receive 90% of the materials used to craft it. If you do not have at least 100 blacksmithing or mining, you’ll receive 66% of the material used to create the item. Store bought items return one ingot.

Smelting Magic Items: When you smelt a magic item as a Grandmaster blacksmith or miner, you have a chance of receiving extra ingots, including colored ingots.

Colored Ingots and Armor

Those who master the art of blacksmithy can work with rare and more powerful ingots, like verite or valorite. See below for the requirements to craft with colored ingots.

Benefits of Crafting with Colored Ingots

Armor created with higher-tier ingots will offer better protection. A suit of valorite platemail provides superior protection compared to a suit of platemail crafted with shadow ingots.
